Formula Student - Front Wing
Universitas Indonesia Racing Team | 3D CAD → CFD Simulation → CFRP Manufacturing

How
- Developed the initial 3D CAD geometry for the multi-element airfoil profiles and endplates.
- Executed iterative Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations to analyze pressure distributions, optimize flow attachment, and mitigate wake generation.
- Manufactured the final aerodynamic structure utilizing Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) to achieve strict strength-to-weight requirements.
- Improved structural rigidity by redesigning the mounting system with a thicker, shorter profile.

Result
- Successfully delivered a lightweight, race-ready composite front wing that integrated seamlessly with the vehicle's broader aerodynamic package.
- Generated 174.5 N of total downforce while maintaining a highly efficient aerodynamic profile with a drag penalty of only 36.7 N at 60 km/h.
Why
The team identified a need for a front wing that could generate greater downforce and improved rigidity, achieved through a revised airfoil profile and a simpler mounting system.
What
Designed and manufactured a custom multi-element front wing for the Universitas Indonesia Racing Team, engineered to generate front-axle downforce and optimize overall aerodynamic balance.
